There are 20 students. their age range is
13-14. They enjoy doing reading and listening activities. They need to
improve their communicative skills.

Aims for the lesson

By the end of the lesson the students

have developed their reading
skills for gist and for specific information with the reference to a topic on
Satnavs(Satellite navigation systems)
·
have learnt how give
directions by using vocabulary about prepositions of directions.
·
Have developed their speaking
and listening skills ask and answer the questions then listen and check it.
Anticipated problems students
might not be aware of some vocabulary in the text and have pronunciation
problems.
Solving the problem-I will play the recording of the text for students to read and
listen. Stop at any words I predict may cause pronunciation problems,( e.g. satellite navigation, artificial , 20,000,
accuracy)and I ask students to repeat. Then I will introduce vocabulary.

competition. In pears, students have to write down as many places of interest
as possible in a typical capital city. Ask the pair with the most to read
them to the class and then ask the other pairs to add to the list. For each
place ask: what can you do there?

point slide.

Ask to look at the map and
find Covent Garden Market. Then listen to the directions and follow the route
on the map. Where do you get to? Play the recording, pausing and playing each
section again if necessary.

Ask students to look at the
map on slide again. (They are outside the Theatre Museum) Give them worksheets
and read the question (Excuse me, can you help me –how do I get to the National
Gallery?) Ss putting sentences a-d in the correct order to give instruction.
·
Ask a pair of students to
model the dialogue, with one asking the question and the other reading the
instructions in the correct order.
·
Focus on the map again. In pairs,
students ask each other for directions from one place to another. Encourage them to use the prepositions of
directions.
·
Students agree a starting point
on the map and give each other directions. Their partner has to follow the
directions and say where they got
